Our research supports an equitable transition from dependence on oil production to

A just energy future for Newfoundland and Labrador.

A Fair Transition

Newfoundland and Labrador’s energy future is in flux, with major risks and opportunities. How can our province join the global energy transition in a way that is fair to workers and communities dependent on the oil sector, delivers widespread socio-economic benefits and contributes to climate safety?

What We Research

These are the questions motivating the work of researchers involved with the OEEC (Oil to Energy Equity Collaboration).
Researchers on this project focus on:

1 ) Analyzing the opportunities for – and barriers to – an equitable transition from oil dependence.

2 ) Facilitating the co-creation of equitable transition policies to 2026.

3 ) Mobilizing this work to support policy implementation.

Our work centres Newfoundland and Labrador, and is informed by global examples.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is in traditional Mi’kmaw territory, and we acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of this province.
